An Honest Tearful Apology

An Honest Tearful Apology (New Sketch with Omgchomp!)

Boy, do we love kicking beehives.

  1. Normal Guy starts using Youtube
  2. Youtube makes Normal Guy -> Famous Guy
  3. Famous Guy acts like monster
  4. The truth comes out about Famous Guy
  5. Famous Guy makes grossly insincere tearful apology video

Thus, the life cycle of an awful Youtube star. And recently, it seems like we’ve been seeing a lot of these tearful apologies. Most recently, Toby Turner’s lame offering in response to the hurricane of sexual assault allegations leveled against him.

Omgchomp and I decided to dust off our old “Honest” videos series and say something about this.

And hey, we got another shoutout from screenwriter Max Landis!

Kickstarter is a platform to raise money to for you make a product that benefits the backers. GoFundMe is a platform to raise money… for you.

Sometimes this is for a legitimate reason– helping someone afford a life-saving surgery, for instance. But other times, it begs the question, “WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR YOU TO BACKPACK THROUGH EUROPE, GERRIT?”

After the success of our first “Honest” video (An Honest Kickstarter Video) and bearing witness to too many unjustifiable GoFundMe campaigns, Omgchomp and I decided to sharpen our daggers again.

Thus, our newest sketch, “An Honest GoFundMe” video.

Plus, a cool shoutout from screenwriter Max Landis!

We had a great time making this sketch and did an outtakes video too!

My Horror Short Film WAKE Will Haunt You. Watch It Now!

Finally, it’s here! My horror short film and first-born child, WAKE.

Here’s the synopsis in case you missed it last time:

LOGLINE: A man must confront his nightmares when trapped in his broken virtual reality machine.

Having shown it to a few people so far, I’ve loved nothing more than watching when people jump watching this thing. This movie is also a huge step for me as a writer– it’s the first film I’ve made that isn’t a comedy. I’m asking the audience to take what I’ve made somewhat seriously. I hope they do.

Here is an excerpt from blog We Are Indie Horror’s write-up of the film (below):

The story is based off of one of Kyle’s among many creative types’ biggest fears, which is letting people down. As he puts it “The film, in a lot of ways, is an apology to my girlfriend for working so much and letting that sometimes get between us. It kicks off with the main character being so driven by work that he tears apart his marriage, and once he enters his broken virtual reality machine, it really gives him hell for that.” His machine is designed to let people live out their dreams, but cannot distinguish between the good and bad dreams. This leads Alan down a treacherous road, where he ultimately must confront his greatest fear, failure. “The main character in the film is based on a fear of my own and one I would imagine a lot of us share; a fear of letting everyone down. The fear of failing. In a lot of ways I think that’s scarier than death because in the moments where you do fail, part of you honestly wishes you could just die right there on the spot. You would prefer death to letting everyone down.”

That about sums it up.

Turn off your lights, turn up your volume, and hug your loved ones. I hope this rattles you.

If it does, let me know on social media:

Good luck sleeping tonight!

WAKE – HORROR SHORT FILM TRAILER

Trapped in Virtual Reality: Watch the Wake Trailer

If the trailer for my new horror short film Wake doesn’t creep you out, I don’t know what will. Actually I do, the full movie will.

LOGLINE: A man must confront his nightmares when trapped in his broken virtual reality machine.

It’s crazy that this project is almost here! I remember when we released the John and Kyle movie, I wrote on this very site that “I have never poured more of my heart and soul into a project as I have John and Kyle.” How young and innocent I used to be. I didn’t realize how deep the pool was then– and while making Wake, I felt pretty certain that I legitimately touched the bottom.

Like I wrote on here before, this project had Murphy’s Law written all over it. Now that we’re gearing up to actually release the film, it seems almost surreal! The sheer amount of work I put into this movie is crazy. I have a Writer, Story, Director of Photography, Producer, and Editing/VFX credit on this thing. DAAANG.

Anyway, check out the poster below (which I also designed).

I can’t wait to finally show you this! See you in a bit.

NEW COMEDY WEB SERIES: GOODNIGHT JOHN

Goodnight John: Our OTHER New Comedy Series

You know those stupid conversations you have at sleepovers? Yeah, this is a comedy series about that.

What is Goodnight John?

Goodnight John is the newest addition to the stable of Future Boyfriends comedy series. It follows the titular John and his aggravated roommate Alex every night, right before they go to sleep. The dynamic is kind of like Jake and Amir, but right before bed. You’re going to like it.

Goodnight John Promo for Future Boyfriends

After finishing the release of the John and Kyle Do Everything movie, I received a call from John about a script he wrote– a pilot for a potential new web series. I read it and laughed out loud, repeatedly, like a fool. I knew immediately that we had to make this new idea into a reality.

That pilot script has not changed a word. After defining the scope and idea for the series, we wrote an additional seven episodes for a full season of the show, and John got to work with production out in Los Angeles. Our aim is to make shorter, more digestible content than we previously did with the John and Kyle web series, with the added benefit of easy production (it all takes place in a bedroom!). Maybe we can make more in the future. Who knows.

In the mean time, watch the teaser attached to this post, and look out for the first episode next Monday. There’s seven more where that came from.

HIGH SCIENCE: Do We Live In a Multiverse??

Multiverse Theory: Let High Science Blow Your Mind

Welcome to High Science– it’s like if Bill Nye was really really high.

Our first episode is finally here! We’re kicking it off with one of the most mind-blowing concepts out there: the Multiverse Theory.

The Multiverse Theory? You mean like in Star Trek / Avengers / Justice League?

Yes.

Pop culture has used this theory in all sorts of stories– that’s because there are more than one multiverse theory. You can say there are multi multiverse theories. And statistically speaking, some very well could be true.

Watch this week’s host struggle his way through this topic, and maybe expand your mind too while you’re at it.

Screen from the High Science premiere episode

Pictured: your brain on drugs.

Some select feedback from the Reddit thread:

“Idk about you but he blew my mind while making me laugh. Good enough for me”

“These guys are going places”

“I can’t unsee him as Michael Cera…”

One more, if those last three testimonials didn’t sway you:

“daaaamn”

There you have it. If that last one didn’t convince you, I don’t know what will.

BLOOPERS FROM JOHN AND KYLE DO EVERYTHING: THE MOVIE

Blooper Reel from John and Kyle Do Everything: The Movie

And here we are. The last video we have from John and Kyle. This series has been a part of my life for the past two years. Working on it has helped define my goals and prepared me for all there is to come. Also, we tell a lot of funny jokes about penises.

Don’t get me wrong: this video is hilarious. But it also shows all the fun we had making the movie (and expertly excludes all the irritating, stressful times that also definitely happened). The movie shows the final product, but the blooper reel shows the experience I took away from it. Again, there are some seriously funny jokes about penises in this video.

Hopefully someday there will be more to come. For now though, enjoy the movie, and enjoy this. John and Kyle signing off.

We haven’t done everything yet.

DELETED SCENES FROM JOHN AND KYLE DO EVERYTHING

Deleted Scenes from John and Kyle Do Everything: The Movie

The general rule in filmmaking is that the script-page to film-minute ratio is generally 1:1. So here’s a pro tip: don’t write a 40 page script and try to cram it into a 30 page movie unless you are DAMN SURE that you can do it.

We shot John and Kyle Do Everything: The Movie with the intention of maintaining a breakneck pace throughout, and even with completely removing some scenes and trimming everything as short as humanly possible, the film just BARELY squeezed into 30 minutes.

That being said, we were left with some killer extra content in the form of a hilarious six-minute long deleted scenes video. Six minutes. That is one fifth of the movie that was left on the cutting room floor. How nuts is that?

Needless to say, if you haven’t seen the movie, please DO SO before you watch this. Don’t be silly.

We have one video left for you! Be sure to check out the crazy bloopers reel next week!
